unbelievable day

Today we took the train from Cologne down to Koblenz and jumped on a Rhine River cruise that was free with our Eurail pass. We sat out on the open deck of this ferry sipping wine/beer and watching stunning castles go by high above the banks of the river as well as beautiful, medieval-ish German towns, which line the banks all the way down. The section of the Rhine Valley from Koblenz south to Mainz is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most beautiful places in the world according to the organization. It was so gorgeous outside and we were so relaxed that it made for one of the best days of our trip thus far, if not the best. We got off at Kaub, four hours later, and got on a train back to Cologne. Caitlin said she could have spent the entire trip just cruising the Rhine because it was so wonderful!

The Dom (cathedral) in Cologne is one of the largest and most stunning in Europe--Matt has not been able to take his eyes off of it since we arrived in the city. We climbed the belfry, 322 feet high, for some stunning views of the city yesterday morning before we left for the cruise. We have had a great time in Cologne, but we are very excited to head off to Berlin tomorrow morning. Until next time...

I can just see the two of you, sipping your drinks, exclaiming at the views every two seconds...with expletives being the only descriptive words worthy enough...

The pics from your trip down the Rhine were quite captivating. I was wondering how you got a shot of my home though? I always thought it was hidden back from sight so well ;)

Thanks for keeping us up to date and we can't wait to hear more when you arrive back "HOME" in December.

Merry Prague.
